There are times when riding is best done in a group.

The chat, the relaxed coffee before the ride, the friendly rivalry to crest the climb first, the wild fluctuations in pace broadly in line with street signs, the affirmation that cycling is a joy best shared.

Today isn't one of those times. Today it has to hurt and that is best done away from others.
